Keynote Address
Markham Hislop is a Canadian energy and climate journalist. He hosts the Energi Talks podcast, conducts video interviews with experts from around the world about the energy transition with topics including clean energy and cleantech, electric vehicles, climate and energy policies, green finance, hydrogen, oil/gas adaption, the energy future, and much much more.
He writes the Markham On Energy political analysis column and about the energy future. He is frequently interviewed on Canadian radio about energy transition issues.

Wrap up the day on a high note with exciting stories of community projects including Metis Nation of Alberta's Climate Action Plan which focuses on education, renewable energy, energy efficiency and environmental monitoring. Followed by the Town of Raymond's inspiring story of how one Alberta municipality defied the odds and became Alberta's first net-zero town!
Closing Keynote and Farewell Address
Michael Kerr is the Executive Director of the Advanced Hydrocarbons Team at Alberta Innovates
The Advanced Hydrocarbons team is comprised of industry veterans that are driven to catalyze and foster innovation activities to improve the lives of Albertans economically, environmentally, and socially. Advanced Hydrocarbons’ staff support the innovation ecosystem with targeted funding programs, facilitation of initiatives, connecting members of the ecosystem together to achieve common goals, and supporting complementary programs at similar agencies (for example, Emissions Reduction Alberta, Natural Resources Canada, Sustainable Development Technology Canada, and more).
Michael will speak to Alberta Innovates' efforts in Oil and Gas Innovation in Alberta including the Bitumen Beyond Combustion Project (BBC). The BBC program develops technologies to convert oil sands components into non-combustion products, such as carbon fibre, asphalt binder, activated carbon, and other high value carbon materials.
Following the closing keynote, Red Deer Polytechnic's VP of Academic and Student Experience, Lindsay Engel will give closing remarks and farewell.
