Michael is the Executive Director of the Advanced Hydrocarbons Division at Alberta Innovates. Within Advanced Hydrocarbons there are two main areas where he and his team manage projects/investments:

Cleaner Hydrocarbon Production – Includes efficiency in process for recovery technologies, Methane Emission Reduction and Digital Innovation in Clean Energy (DICE)

Innovative Hydrocarbon Products – Includes Partial Upgrading and Bitumen Beyond Combustion (BBC). Under the BBC banner, the areas of interest for asphaltenes include Carbon Fibres for new materials, asphalt binders and new hard carbon materials for EV battery production.
